Microgaming Tournaments Carry Big Prize Pools

February 8, 2014

One of the great things about the kind of casino games that are produced by Microgaming is that they lend themselves very well to special promotions that take place on the part of their client casinos. And often the software provider is the driver behind all of that promotional activity.

Tournaments are certainly one of the main areas of thrust. Recently the company coordinated tournament activities that centered around their game called "Santa's Wild Ride." As you can guess, it was a Christmas tournament event, with a Christmas-themed slot. This was also a very elaborate and sophisticated game, with 243 different ways to win, along with a random multiplier and a great free spins feature which is triggered when three or more scatter symbols appears somewhere on the screen.

And when this particular slot game gives out free spins, they are not the slightest bit stingy about it. This feature gives the customer a total of 25 spins, and it would be surprising if somebody went away empty-handed after something like that.

For the event there was a $30,000 prize pool, but that was nothing compared with the money that was available with another Microgaming slot game. The Deck The Halls multi-player slot was the focus of this one, and the total prize pool was $100,000, with $15,000 being awarded to the ultimate winner. Again, this was a tournament tied to the holidays.

Surely there will be other events and other slots that are tied into other times of the year, but the overall point is this: what makes the tournaments lucrative is the association with Microgaming, because they are coordinating network-based events. So when it comes to the small buy-ins involved, they are pooled throughout all the casinos that are participating. Microgaming is popular enough that they provide the edge.
